I think this is the third one that has reported closing. How soon before the sheep get spooked, and start a run on ammo purchase, because of the fear of running out, and cause a shortage? I remember the last time that happen a handful of years ago.
Better stock up now, and beat the rush!!
A bit of Googling shows that this is AAC that’s shutting down. That was announced a while ago. I’m not seeing that this is a string of shutdowns, just one major one and some smaller boutique operations.
But yes, the fact that the world is at war and we don’t make enough smokeless powder domestically to meet both military and commercial needs is concerning.
Would be nice if Trump bought the plant for NATO ammo. We have only a fraction of the ammo plants during WW2. Granted, modern manufacturing probably puts out near the same amount with fewer factories. But with each factory closure, America’s egg basket gets smaller. If Lake City got taken out, we’d be in very deep doo doo. We also need cellulose producers here in the US. Domestic demand outpaces domestic supply. A lot of the raw materials come from you know who…
