MEMBER ACTION NEEDED!!
As a quick update from last week, all ten of the gun control bills that were introduced advanced out of the NJ Assembly Judiciary Committee and have now been referred to the Assembly Appropriations Committee. We are tracking calendars and will update on dates for the next hearing on these bills.
There is a unique opportunity to directly combat at least one of the bills. A5345 would require credit card companies to create special merchant codes for firearms and ammunition transactions. Tracking and monitoring bills like this are clearly designed to create backdoor registries.
The good news for this one is that West Virginia Rep. Riley Moore introduced HR 1181, the Protecting Privacy in Purchases Act which would make it FEDERALLY illegal to create merchant codes for the purposes of tracking firearms and ammunition transactions.
HR 1181 was introduced on February 11th and is now up to 58 co-sponsors. At the moment, no New Jersey representatives have co-sponsored HR 1181. We were in touch this morning with Rep. Jeff Van Drew and he is looking at the bill right now. We are confident that Van Drew will join that list of co-sponsors.
We need the entire New Jersey republican delegation to co-sponsor HR 1181. If you live in either the 4th Congressional District (Rep. Chris Smith) or 7th Congressional District (Rep. Tom Kean Jr.) PLEASE take just two minutes today to call their state legislative offices and kindly ask them to help stop Gov. Phil Murphy’s assault on our privacy and our Second Amendment rights and to support and co-sponsor HR1181.
With the power we now have in Washington DC, we can shut the door on A5345 completely.
For Rep. Chris Smith’s office (CD4), if you live in Ocean County, call (732) 504-0567. If you live in Monmouth County, call (732) 780-3035. The
For Rep. Tom Kean, Jr.'s state office, call (908) 547-3307
The 7th Congressional District is Hunterdon and Warren Counties, parts of Morris, Somerset, Sussex, and Union Counties.
