22 Conversion Kit in a AOW

Looking to put my CMMG 22LR Conversion Kit into my Registered 5.56 AOW for cheaper practice anyone know if there are any legal issues doing this.

Not that I know of. I’ve done this plenty of times.

It’s probably fine. You are not modifying the barrel, overall length or anything external.

I’m wondering about the legality of temporarily changing the caliber

Well, you’re not really changing the caliber, just the cartridge. Same bullet diameter. It’s not like you are swapping the upper for a dedicated .22.

I understand the concern regarding AOWs and modifications, but I don’t think temporarily swapping in a .22 conversion bolt violates anything (it’s not permanent) and you can readily revert it in seconds.

One thing to be aware of - those type of .22lr blowback kits (they don’t use gases returned via the gas tube to cycle the bolt) can exhaust a lot of gas through the charging handle channel in your receiver.

Can be really annoying depending on what kind of charging handle you have/ where your face/eyes are placed / height of your optic.
