Since the charger is technically a pistol and they call the collapsing stock “braces”.
Does anyone know if its actually legal to own one of these with the said brace in the great state of NJ?
I would love the ability to upgrade one of those to be a fun little plinkster but I cant help but imagine the panic among Range/police officers alike if they what looks to be a carbine rifle with a collapsing stock.
These are not going to be legal here. N.J.A.C. 13:54-1.2 has this to say about the criteria that makes a pistol an assault weapon:
A semi-automatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following:
(1) An ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;
(2) A threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer;
(3) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being burned;
(4) Manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and/or
(5) A semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm
Even the lightest model of the Ruger 22 Charger is 50oz according to their website so it fails on evil features 1, 2 and 4 which is 2 more than is allowed. You could have the threaded barrel thread protector pinned, but it still fails.
Also, the mags are 15 rounds so they would have to be pinned too.
