21’ rule

Pretty scary when it’s shown like this

It’s not a rule. It doesn’t even apply to anyone not carrying in a duty holster.

Are you saying a CC holder would be even slower on the draw

This is how it’s done.

I wonder how quick on the draw someone would be if totally surprised. Even though that guy drew from his waistband, he actually knew what was coming, just didn’t know “when”.

What if someone was just standing there, and totally surprised when the target started moving. Could they draw and fire in time?

Short answer: No.

I have been in training classes where they do this with an inert gun, and even though you know it’s coming, most people can barely get a shot off, even with some movement.

I know it’s a static drill but, real world he should be moving backwards and left while firing to create some distance. Moving is good. Ever if it’s a couple feet.

You also have a second target who will be shooting while your dealing with the first. So moving left will obscure his view but yours also.

I took a few classes over the years and shot extremely close, 1-3ft. They taught us to use your weak hand held high to hold or push off the attacker if hes on top of you. Draw, lock that elbow. Hip fire is the way to go at this distance.

If it’s Usain Bolt your screwed :rofl:l

It is an imaginary scenario for most.

Any person planning to stick you with a knife is unlikely to stand 7 yards away, pull out the knife and wave it around to declare his intent.

Many victims who are stabbed report being punched, completely unaware that there was even a blade present until after the fact. A savvy attacker will close the distance before revealing a knife.

Also, Dennis Tueller ran his tests using police gear and found that an attacker 21 feet away was most likely capable of inflicting deadly force from that distance. The study doesn’t say 22 feet is safe, or 30 feet, or any distance. It only says that 21 feet or less makes it probable that a knife wound will be inflicted.

Why 21 feet? Because that was the distance cops were trained to shoot at.

@Silverado427 I’m not saying you need to draw faster or slower. I’m saying the study doesn’t say what people believe it says.

This video clip illustrates just how fast 21’ can be covered I think it’s like 7 seconds

7 seconds for 21 feet is just a smidge over 2mph. Most people walk at 3 mph.

At the club we have a machine similar to the video you posted at the top of this thread and it covers the 21 feet in about 2 seconds.

Whoa that’s fast

Frightening!
