I’m trying to decide which model to buy next, in a little while. Which make / model do you suggest?
Looking for a 9mm Luger semi auto pistol, full sized frame. Double action / SA or Striker fired.
I’d prefer an aluminum frame. Or stainless steel. Maybe polymer.
Good for beginner shooters, heavy is ok, even with smaller hands or women. I prefer a full size grip myself, XL size gloves.
For target practice, education, and home defense purposes. No carry, no 1911s. I’d like it to add it to the home defense. With a holster.
Safety / decocker is OK, I think it may benefit young shooters to learn a safety, maybe.
Walther PDP, polymer but a really great shooting pistol, very nice trigger.
I don’t consider this a carry pistol and if it’s in your budget a CZ Shadow2 compact. Pick up this pistol when you want to have a big smile while practicing. It really is that nice.
Maybe any Variant of the CZ-75/P01 pistol. Don’t own but I have shot them and they’re great guns. They’re also aluminum framed since that was one your requirements. While I haven’t shot them CZ also makes the P09 which is a Polymer framed hammer fired gun. Been looking to get up to Gun For Hire to rent and try one out or find someone who has one that’ll let me try them out.
Thank you ALL for your comments, excellent info. I’ve been eyeing the GFH rental list, it’s quite extensive. I’ve never rented from them before, and I’m suffering from “kid in a candy store” right now.
Beretta 92FS, M9A4, and PX4 Storm. Thanks 67GTO
Walther PDP, and a PPQ and CCP. CZ Shadow2 Compact and regular. Three CZ 75s, a P-09 and P-10. Thanks Redeye and planenut.
Every Glock model, it seems. Thanks Doc Holiday and DaddyNick.
Sig P226, 320, and four P365s including a P365 Legion.
Does anyone own a Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0? In any cal?
I’m interested in knowing if the trigger performance is noticeably better. People are talking about adding an Apex trigger to it, which I probably would not do. But that doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzies on the improved 2.0 trigger.
I was never a huge fan of the hinged 1.0 trigger, but the 1.0 is super reliable and easy to shoot. I’d love to try a metal framed 2.0, and see if that reduces recoil to a “Beretta level” 92 series.
This is one of the original Taurus PT92AFS made on Beretta tooling. You cant find these in this condition. VERY accurate. Thinning the herd a bit if you want something nice. All stainless and alloy frame. No decocker just a safety. Original box, grips, and manual. Hate to see it go…
That’s a beautiful pistol sir. I was not aware that Taurus made that. It looks just like a Beretta 92FS, but the safety is on the frame. The slide looks “less busy”. The trigger guard, frame, barrel bushing area, and “open slide” area all look the same to me.
I will certainly keep this in mind! Thank you Tunaman!
You can’t go wrong with a CZ. For a lower cost on a full sized pistol the SP-01 is great. If you want to get a little more spendy the Shadow 2 is also great and has an optics ready version.
The Dan Wesson DWX is also a great gun. It has a CZ style grip with a 1911 style trigger.
You can’t go wrong with a CZ. Widely considered one of the best ergonomic handguns. Whichever feels better in your hands and whichever you shoot better with.
I have a CZ-75BD and a CZ-P01. Both excellent pistols.
While not a 9mm, a 357 Revolver is also an excellent choice for what your requirements are. Very versatile. For new shooters you can use very soft shotting 38 wadcutters. Many a newbie has done so with my Ruger GP-100 and they loved it.
Revolvers are also so very simple to understand. Almost intuitive for new shooters. Load it, pull the trigger. No magazine which can be difficult to load for some. No slide to rack. No safety to worry about. No possible stove pipes. Just a thought.
Thank you guys. CZs are on the list. So are Berettas. I’m only talking semi-auto 9mm here, revolver is a whole different thing. Actually I’m starting with large revolvers and 38 special low power. They used to call them cowboy loads. 125 grain. Seems like there are low power 158 too.
