Went down to Pax River today to check out the museum. It was fantastic! Learned a few things, for example, John Young from the first shuttle launch was also an Apollo astronaut. Anyway, here are few of my favorites from the day.

Cool stuff. I was interested after your post so looked up the info:

Cool! I have a friend who was stationed at NAS Pensacola during 9/11/01. That’s the home of the Blue Angels. We went to their museum and also had fun watching them practice at another date.

A few years ago on the old forum @planenut posted a bunch of links to air museums and I’ve been checking them off ever since. Today’s trip was to the American Air Power Museum on Long Island. They have a lot packed in there… really cool and unique place. The C47 was the one they had at the recent McGuire air show.

I’ll have to check my pictures. I don’t remember seeing a Thud (F-105 Thunderchief) the last time I was there.

Years ago in the early 90s i would regularly go to the warren grove bombing range and the air force guys would let you up in the tower and and watch the planes strafing the parachute targets and dropping the BDU33 dummy bombs. Still were flying A4, A6 . Not sure if its open to the public anymore.

Took a trip to the New England Air Museum and Connecticut Air and Space Center yesterday. Worth the trip! Really impressed with the former and thought I was going to be disappointed by the latter by wasn’t (it was on the way home so if it did suck it wouldn’t have mattered).

There’s something about seeing an F-15 in person…

Spent last weekend and Monday touring air museums in the South East. First up was Hickory, NC. Not too big but a very nice collection. People were really nice and got an interior tour of a P-3 Orion, which was really interesting. Greeted at the door by a USMC Huey Cobra!

 ![IMG_8696.HEIC](https://njgunforums.net/uploads/default/original/2X/4/4a7e2053e8921da1294733c5599cd12d8a59c9cc.jpeg)

Excellent Phantom specimen!

Blue Angels bug…

And one of, if not the last, retired Tomcat.

 ![IMG_8739.HEIC](https://njgunforums.net/uploads/default/original/2X/7/7987198df2e69d5a3766b8890c57a414c56d0788.jpeg)

After Hickory it was off to Georgia for the Museum of Aviation at Warner Robbins. Really excellent museum. Lots of excellent aircraft to see! The Vietnam era building was outstanding. There were some cool things you couldn’t get to, which was disappointing, namely a Delta Dagger and Delta Dart. WWII building seems to be more of a work in progress but still some great stuff. Also, quite a few nice aircraft outside to check out.

F-15 in the lobby.

 ![IMG_8755.HEIC](https://njgunforums.net/uploads/default/original/2X/8/883a25a80b3b0aa710708e8d19d9c6419b1a08ba.jpeg)

T-Birds Falcon:

And an Aardvark:

After this stop, it was off to Pensacola, where sadly, because of the hurricane, the Navy museum wasn’t open. Definitely disappointing. But… the USAF Armament Museum at Eglin was open! Smaller inside but just about every missile and bomb you’ve ever seen. Also lots of great aircraft outside to checkout. And definitely didn’t help my challenge coin addiction!

Thud:

All in all, a great trip… hope to still get to NAS PNS one day!
