If this report is true, the kids never stood a chance. I can see why they might ban cell phones for the kids, but to not let the adults have them… well… because of that, they never received the emergency broadcasts that would have warned them:
Caroline Cutrona, a Camp Mystic counselor, told CNN that a power outage around 4 a.m. that morning meant that the camp’s loudspeaker public address system wasn’t working, and that she never received cell phone alerts about the flash flooding because counselors and campers weren’t allowed to keep their phones with them.
I just checked the newswire, Blue Oak RV Park had a family of 5 disappear and another guy. As of yesterday, they said 40 are still missing. Another one, Riverside RV Park, got destroyed, but unknown if anyone died.
Kerr County: 103 dead, 161 missing
At least 103 people, including 36 children, were killed in Kerr County. In a Thursday morning update, county officials said 161 people are known to be missing in the county, including five Camp Mystic campers and one camp counselor.
Travis County: 9 dead, 4 missing
Nine deaths have been confirmed in Travis County after what County Judge Andy Brown called “an extremely deadly and destructive flood event.” The Sandy Creek area has been hardest hit.
Officials said four people remain missing, as of Friday.
Kendall County: 8 dead
Burnet County: 5 dead, 1 missing
Williamson County: 3 dead
Tom Green County: 1 dead
The comments at that post are horriffic. I saw as of yesterday, there were still over 100 people missing in Kerr County. They don’t stipulate if these were campers or homeowners. The RVs were obliterated, according to the SAR people. I have to think that many of the missing were hunkered down in the RV in the early morning, and got sucked down the river. They may never be found…
