Forgot to mention, with braid you can have too much line on the spool. You’ll get “wind-knots” until the line finds it’s happy place on the spool, and every make and model of reel is different.
The knots are actually caused by getting a loop of line across the top of the spool when the bail snaps over. You can keep that from happening by grabbing the line and pulling a foot of it off against the drag after the bail is snapped shut.

Well so far I have a, Okuma Hawaiian custom rod at 10’ 7" in Medium heavy at 8-20 pounds. Medium/Medium fast ,1/2-2oz lure and a Daiwa BG 5000.
Should be good enough for a beginning?

Newer model. I think the newer model has larger gears and is more protected from salt water.

Question about casting weight, I haven’t really tried different weights yet. Would a 1 ounce bucktail with 30 braid say, fishing the bay from shore at high tide cast out far enough. The rod is rated for two max, can I go 3 or 4 or higher with the right line?
30 braid is going to seriously cut your distance with spinning gear. I never go over 20

As already said anything over 30lb braid is overkill and will hamper your cast. My bait rods have 30lb braid and my plugging and bay rods have 20lb braid.
The hook will pull or knot fail before the braid breaks i99% of the time.
Concentrate on your knots.
With braid use a Palomar and when you want to use a different knot, use a Palomar
Ive been working on that particular knot.
