Sump pump help

My house was built in the 50s, it was not built with a sump. We never got water in the 22 years I been here.

The 3 yo hot water tank broke the other day , we did catch it in time.

Does anyone know a model pump that has a minimum level of water required to activate it.

I don’t want to penetrate the floor and create a place for water to come up.

Thanks

Is this just for internal plumbing leaks?

Your best bet may be to install a flood alarm which will notify you if it detects water on your basement floor.

Did you install a leak pan under your new water heater?

Yep had a leak pan , I raised the tank about 8 inches so I can have the leak pan go into a tub. This ifvinternal leaks

I have a small pump that I used to use to empty kids little pools , that pump now goes into a rubbermaid 18 gal tub that has a regular sump pump that empties outside.

I have heard about valves that shut off if it detects water running too much.

If you already have the leak pan off the ground, put a sensor in the pan to generate an alarm so you know you have a problem. Hook the pan up to something like this to pump any water to a slop sink, or other outgoing drain connection so it will deal with any water until you can get to the stopcock.
