Agree! In fact about 30% of my threaded connections leak first time (I use too much caution on overtightening) but never had a sweat fitting fail.
Re did my Bathroom 10 plus years ago pex piping and shark bite fasteners,
I did some repairs of copper on hot water lines, no problems.
Had a plumber tell me when we were building the New āgiantsā stadium that all fittings in stadium are compression fittings. He said the only thing we dont know is how long the rubber Orings will last. Soldered joints were good fer a hundred years he said.
My only turn off to shark bite fittings is the cost! At 10 times the price of a normal copper fitting, I will break out the torch every time. The 2 times I did use the shark bites were in very tight spaces where I was afraid of starting a fire. Many years later, the shark bites are still working great!
I have run into that problem too. I keep a piece of fireproof cloth (same as fire blanket) and some RockWool insulation in my plumbing bag. I have also cut the pipe in a more convenient location instead of as close to the fixture or leak when it is too cramped.
I work in heating and cooling, Iām very comfortable with press fittings, really not concerned about the O rings. We use them on water and gas extensively, and on refrigeration where space or the facility doesnāt allow the use of a torch. I keep some sharkbite with me for emergency repairs, but we donāt leave them. I have no problem with trusting them, especially if it is accessible, itās just that they are expensive and donāt look professional in my opinion.
I use this, itās amazing. A lot better than some of the other brands Iāve used in the past.

That makes me chuckle because before I wised up to the fireproof cloth and Rock Wool I literally used to take a piece of a terrycloth towel and soak it in water to use as a backing.
