PTC Application

I just submitted mine. I was unsure on a couple of items, so I thought I’d jot down the process.

Very similar to the application for purchase permit. $226 with the fees for the processing company tacked on, I’m through the NJSP, no local PD.

Four references required, not related by blood or law, I think it was 3 years you had to know them. Have to supply their Name, Address, Phone & email address and how long you’ve known each other. They get an email nearly immediately to fill out the survey online. You need a picture to upload, you also upload proof of Use of Force training and Qualification. You also have to supply info on the gun(s) you intend to carry. Caliber, Make, Model & Serial Number.

I saw nothing stating the need to redo fingerprints, or any other forms. It seems to me that NJ is accepting that since you have a SBI number already, that’s all on record already.

I submitted my renewal on 9/26. NJNICS research center has my town as issuing in an average of 26 days.
That’s a bit better than the 154 days it took to receive my first one but I had the courts as well as the town dragging their feet.

As long as they have your fingerprints in electronic form, you don’t have to them again. Someone in Trenton will come up with a bill that says fingerprints can change and need to be redone every 3 years!

Now you don’t. When I applied for PTC 2 years ago I had to be reprinted. Even though they already had my prints.

I’ve hit a snag. NJSP wants a copy of the Instructor’s Certificate, from my qualification and use of force. I was not given that, and NJSP did not ask for it the last two times. I’ve reached out to Shooters for his contact info.

They should have provided you with a form (SP 182) for the use of force. My instructor certificate is on the back of that, one sheet of paper. We are suppose to scan and upload that with the application in FARS or I guess email it to them in your case if that’s what they are asking for.

I have the SP 182. Single sided, no Instructor Cert with it.

I called Shooters, where I took the qualification, they said they would email me. Nothing yet.

Did your instructor give you his business card or a receipt for the class? There is most likely a way to contact him directly rater than through the range.

Negative, just the form. I found him on some social media sites, but I’ll see if Shooters gets back to me first.

Shooters was able to send me the certificate. I’ll be sending it to NJSP and hope for the best.

That’s great! You should be good after they get that.

makes me wonder…if i list only my glock and my beretta when i renew… but decide to carry my sig…is that gonna be an issue? i thought we could carry any pistol we owned now that the judges are outta the process. sounds like they put this restriction back in?

You can legally carry any handgun you own! Technically, it may be a good idea to include any gun you carry but it is not required.

It must be awful cold where The Devil lives. My approval came in already.
Ten days from submission. I don’t know that I’ve had a purchase permit come back that quickly; maybe once.

The State stole over three months from me; this permit expires two years from today. My current permit expires 1/27/25.

Anyone with a Mac, be forewarned… I couldn’t download the permit, it kept coming down corrupted. I had to download it from a PC.

It looks just like the paper copy of my original, but as a pdf. At least I can print it smaller so it fits in my wallet better. Since I have the pdf, I may not bother laminating it this time, I’ll print it on a cardstock instead. I can always reprint it if needed.

This is my dilemma. My permit expires 2/13/2025 and my wife and I just did the qual again for the renewal. Didn’t want to submit and lose the months from the 1st permit. What a scam! Waiting until November or maybe even December.

I didn’t want to take the risk. They consider this permit to be an “initial” one, not a renewal; since it is the first time being done via the FARS website. I’m hoping next time, they will honor the date, you know like they do with all of the other things they make us pay for, driver license, registration, taxes, etc…

Really I’m hoping we’ll get some movement in the Courts by then. At least to knock the cost back down, maybe extend the term also. I’m not so delusional as to wish for Constitutional Carry, not in the next two years at least.

Don’t give them any ideas! LOL.

check out NJ Liberty Cards. they can have your permit n fid laminated to credit card size

Submitted on 9/26 and received my permit this morning 10/24. Denville PD doing a pretty good job.

In addition props to NJ Liberty Cards. Sent my files off this morning and received an email from Chad this afternoon saying I will have my card on Saturday.

Great service.

Mine took about 13 calendar days from filing until the approval letter/link showed up in my inbox via the Woodbridge PD.
