Hi guys. I know the old site had a topic for this so I figured I’d start this for anyone looking to post info on friendly PA Counties that are allowing Non-Residents to put in for Licenses to Carry. I just got mine last week. I went to Berks County (Reading). I was allowed to apply online and approval took approximately 2 weeks. I was given about half a dozen options for pick up locations in the county. I chose the RDG airport substation for obvious reasons LOL. Whole pick up process was 5 minutes of them taking my picture and scanning my drivers license. If anyone else wants to put info on friendly counties in, go right ahead.
Delaware County was great! The Sherriff is in Media PA just 20 minutes from the Commodore Barry Bridge. Mine took 2 days.
Pike County Close to North Jersey. Fill out the application online get approved in less than 24 hours schedule your day and time of pick up.
Extra props for not having to remove my belt and holster (gun in car safe) like Lackawanna County made me do 5 years ago.
Oh so you didn’t have to go back to the same county to do your renewal? When you switched was it just a standard renewal or did you have to do it like an initial?
York County, online, 2 day turnaround, pickup at the satellite office, walk in one door walk out the other. easy peasy. 5 year PA CCW, all you have to do when NJ CCW is renewed is scan your driver lic n new NJ CCW to their provided email address n your good to go
Initial, Renewal both are the same.
So, they let you into the courthouse with a gun? There are signs all over the front doors that say no firearms allowed. I’m confused here.
He said “belt and holster (gun in car safe)”. He did not bring his gun into the courthouse.
Yeah ok, I read that wrong.
Thanks for clearing that up.
I applied to Delco in April of 2023. Took less than a week and was in and out in 20 minutes once they called me. A glimpse of what efficient and respectful government can look like. Don’t blink, you might miss it!
About 8-9 months pre-Bruen I got my LTC from Northumberland using my FID.
Ah yes I remember North Umberland. I never got mine from there but a bunch of guys in my pistol club got theirs over there with just an FID. Very friendly Sheriff from what I heard.
How long ago?
When the Perry County craze was stamped out, I spent my personal time researching counties in the area. When I finally called Sheriff Wolfe, I explained in detail about what PA states in their requirement for a nonresident LTC where a nonresident must have “a permit, or any similar document” that allows them to “carry firearms” and at the time (I’m not sure if this is the case anymore) NJ had an explicit exemption for the theoretical open carry of rifles and shotguns for anyone who holds a valid FID from being charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
Sheriff Wolfe relented and said “come on over with $20.” And a day/12 hour round trip later I could legally carry in PA pre-Bruen. I may go back to Northumberland to renew since I enjoy the drive and the scenery, but dear god Sunbury and Shamokin are white trash drug pits.
If memory serves me correctly this was somewhere between 2017-2019. I think around 2019 was when the AG cracked down on all of that and the door was closed. I’m kind of kicking myself in the ass for not doing it while it was still an option since none of those guys were ever turned down for a renewal.
Ah a couple years before I got mine. The predecessor of Shapiro began to require resident permits as a document so for instance a nonresident NH permit would not suffice. Thankfully some of the sheriffs would take the FID. Had mine since 2021. I’ll renew in 25 sometime.
It is of course good for the entirety of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia included.
Another note, there is no requirement for you to maintain your home state permit while having a PA LTC. Nowhere in PA law does it state that you must maintain or face your LTC becoming invalid. It’s a lie peddled by those who have never bothered reading.
Oh so North Umberland was still issuing initial ones after the crack down? Now I’m really kicking myself in the ass for this one. Live and learn, I’m good to go now.
It there never was a crackdown, it was a rule change for issuance of LTC’s to nonresidents.
I got mine over mailnon-resident within one week from Allentown.
But when you renew in 25 do you just send a check or do you have fill out the form for renewal which would ask if you have a valid CCW in your home state.
