i’m not really sure where to put this, so this seems like a decent place. and i know it’s farcebook. but these guys have video clips of being able to actually fire their p-40’s guns while in flight. i dunno if i’m just a bit off, or a full on weirdo…but goddammit it sent chills down my spine. in a good way.take the spaces out to make it work.

this one focuses more on what they did to get the guns ready and functional. only mistake i see is that they seem to want to focus on the dive-bombing sight calling that the gunsite. i think this one’s an “N” model, and it’s got a lead computing gunsite inside.
The earlier models had the ring and bead sights on them, which is probably why they’re confused. Only thing that they’ve done that I don’t like is that they painted the plane in some generic Flying Tigers scheme the plane never wore. Meanwhile it had actual combat history in Australian service in New Guinea. It would have been much better to paint it up in it’s old RAAF colors and honor it’s history.
That was definitely cool to watch.

i can agree with that. i kinda tend to like the AVG schemes…but yea. this one had actual combat history, so should’ve been restored to her original colors.

and yea…it was. if judged by the pattern we saw on the ground, i’m not so sure that they’ve got convergence set on them as yet though. or the pilot was firing from a bit far away. in fact, i think he was…if i remember from reading, the average convergence setting back then was only 150 to 300 yards. relatively speaking, not that far really.
that all said…in the one video, they were talking about pilots being put in these with less than 100 hours of stick time. can you imagine that? here i was shakin like a leaf when i got my first solo in a cessna 172, and these kids were flying 1700+ hp fighters with probably about the same amount of hours i had on my first solo.
You will never progress in Trust Level if you never like anyone’s post… you are still at Trust Level 1 over 1 year later. I think once you like someone’s post the system will promote you.

what i hope is that this starts a trend. there was (i think) fagan fighter museum with twilight tear a few years ago, but to the best of my knowledge they never fired the guns from the air. now there’s these guys. this should become a trend…can you imagine if the mid atlantic air museum got all the guns functioning on their black widow?? or a straffing variant of a mitchell(those things had i think 8 forward firing 50’s). i know it’s expensive…
