This is a public service announcement for new members who might not know there is a separate First Amendment Lounge, which is “invite only”. Other subjects are discussed here, outside of the firearm discussions. These span all types of subjects and can get lively.

There is a First Amendment Lounge but you will only find it once you are added to the group. If you remember the password send it to an admin and they will add you to the group. Otherwise, just ask nicely.

Thanks Sniper! This is mentioned in the pinned Welcome message when I setup this site. Probably being missed by newcomers now landing on the Latest list since we’ve made changes. Good idea to post a reminder from time to time.
Can’t you set it to be visible, but with a password . essentially locking it out from the crawlers and allowing members see it and opt in. I’ve seen 1A type threads password protected and a group that you have to ask to be added to.
Unfortunately I have not found a way to password protect a category. Access is controlled by group membership which is currently manual. I think it may be possible to add access as a subscription, subscribe to be added to the group/get access.
Isn’t that how the old forum was set up? If you looked at the category list, you could see that the 1A forum existed, but you needed the password to enter. So, lurkers and visitors knew there was something in that forum, but had to sign in to view it.
I went in to the forum on my phone, which is not signed in. I usually access it from my laptop. The “Latest” list of discussions comes up, but the 1A discussions are hidden. Even looking at the complete category list not signed in, the 1A lounge doesn’t even show up.
What I don’t know what is visible or what happens when a new member logs on, but hasn’t been given access to the 1A Lounge yet, do they still see all the discussions listed under “Latest”, or are all 1A discussions hidden? When they look at the complete category list, does the 1A Lounge show up in their list, but not accessible? Or is it hidden?
If hidden, then they wouldn’t even know to ask for access, because they wouldn’t know it was here, and unless they really dug through all the Welcome pages, they wouldn’t know it even exists.
Thus, the reason I made this OP, to remind the lurkers that’s there more under the icing of the cake.
The only problem with making the category visible is that it makes the Topic titles public and will be in the Latest List. Users not in that group get to the ‘oops’ page if they click on them. To keep all that content non-public the category must remain not visible for ‘everyone’.
Well, I (Art from North Middletown, .aka oldguyrsule649) am back and I see NJGUNFORUMS seems also to be back in a usable form. So glad to reconnect with all my friends here. I am hardly new as I was a member since 2013 until the server imploded. Please invite me to the First Amendment Lounge. Thanks
A new visible category has been created as a pointer to increase awareness of the 1A forum. It is visible to logged in users and anonymous visitors. Only logged in users can request access.
