Although they were pretty low the ones flying over my house were definitely out of range of a shotgun or crossbow. I’d say they were about 1k feet up.
I didn’t see any the last two nights but the weather was pretty crappie.
Snipped from the article Sniper posted:
Officials said the lack of detection capability against the drones is a significant concern.
Among the challenges lawmakers were told that authorities face is that current radio frequencies do not pick up drone signals. The State Police deployed helicopters over Raritan Bay but could not detect drones, even with infrared cameras, according to Kanitra.
As a result, State Police Col. Pat Callahan halted the helicopter deployments, citing concerns about potential danger, he said.
Federal officials said they sent the state the most sophisticated piece of detection equipment they have, which still could not detect the drones.
It is called an electro-optical infrared camera, which can detect a drone within one to two miles and has the ability to see in the dark via heat spots, Kanitra relayed.
The drones are likely operating in GPS mode, no RF in or out, which suggests they are not transmitting live video.
They “detected” a few. In one instannce a SP chopper approached one of the drones and the drone went dark, so it has some ability to be stealthy(ish). The SP disengaged due to “safety concerns”.
Absolute BS. The USAF can track marble sized objects in near earth orbit, eg space junk, that may collide with a satellite. If they can do that they can certainly detect a drone hovering.
LDAR has been around for a long time and if a drone can use it to scan the ground, certainly a LIDAR operator on the ground can detect a drone.
Here’s a pretty good video. Someone want to take a stab at what it is?
Wait… what… Monmouth County wants Murphy to order a State of Emergency for these drones?? What the heck is going on???
FREEHOLD — The Monmouth County Board of Commissioners are calling on Gov. Phil Murphy to declare a “state of emergency” as answers are sought about the mystery of the unidentified drones reported over New Jersey, including the Shore.
In a statement released Wednesday night, one day before the commission is scheduled to meet in public session today, Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone said the board was acting in support of Sheriff Shaun Golden, who had previously called for such an emergency declaration.
In the recess of every NJ gun owners mind right now…

Ahhhh, we can rest soundly, according to John Kirby… LOL, the Bagdad Bob of the current administration:
The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are using “sophisticated sophisticated electronic detection technologies” to determine their origin, Kirby said.
“We have not been able to, and neither have state or local law enforcement authorities, corroborate any of the reported visual sightings. To the contrary, upon review of available imagery, it appears that many of the reported sightings are actually manned aircraft that are being operated lawfully,” Kirby said.

They’re not wrong about the challenge detecting and tracking these things. That capability really doesn’t exist outside the military. Not like we have a domestic air defense network and haven’t since Nike. Most planes and helicopters do not have radar, and most civilian airports just have passive or IFF-based sensors.
That said, places like the ship in the cornfield in Moorestown with its active radars can probably watch these things if they’re truly car-sized even down to a couple hundred feet.
And the frequency thing is probably BS. The drones could be passive, running a pre planned route. More likely they’re using a non-standard frequency that allows to be masked by all the other RF going on. I doubt the FBI is doing a full spectrum analysis.
a broad spectrum RFI/EMI device like a spark gap generator can deal with that.
Sure, if the goal is to jam then a broad spectrum generator would work. It would cause a lot of disarray though and wouldn’t help detect and track down the controller. For that you need to identify the frequency and then locate any transmitters. If they’re using the same frequency as 802.11nor something similarly prevalent then isolating would be next to impossible.
I blame the incompetent Democrats that are in charge. If these drones are here to do damage we are all screwed. My guess is either Aliens or someone is hiding something from us. Now who would do that you ask? We all know what is going on here. We are being lied to…
My guess is psyop, or a PR stunt that has gotten out of control. They want these things to be seen. Why else would they fly with navigation lights between 6-10pm when people are out and com-air is at its peak. If this was the government doing aerial USAR that they want to keep secret they would do it between 12-4am when things are quiet. If it were adversaries or aliens they wouldn’t use lights and look like quadcopters. If it were some secret military testing then it would be in bumfuck New Mexico or Nevada , not urban NJ.
Bottom line, it’s about the hysteria.
Holy Schmidt! You may be on to something. The only break in the activity was a federal holiday, Thanksgiving there were no drone sightings.

Interesting discussion on pilotsofamerica.com. The consensus seems to be that with all the technology and resources we have in the area that it’s unlikely if these are real events the Government doesn’t know about it.
So either they know and are not talking about it or they don’t know and don’t know what to tell us.
Well, I just got my first sight of them. I easily saw 4-6. They had white and red lights and were flying roughly southwest to northeast from my perspective. My neighbor saw them too. I went outside and couldn’t hear a thing so normal aircraft my a**. I see military and private planes here all the time and based on the intensity of the lights I would have heard a normal plane. As @Tunaman said, we are being lied to…
Roughly what area?
North of JBMDL. Some other folks I know in the next town southwest also saw them.
Thanks! Going to take the dogs for a walk. Anything more you can tell us? Altitude, speed, shape?
