Looking to get into hunting for the first time this year. I was planning to use a 12ga shotgun with slugs during the appropriate seasons and the regs state the following:

"Telescopic sights permitted.

Shotgun must have an adjustable open iron or peep sight or a scope affixed if hunter is hunting with, or in possession of, slugs.

Prohibited: any sight or device that casts a beam of light upon the deer."

Would a red dot be good to go or would I need to get a scope?

A red dot is more than enough for deer distances, however a low power scope may help if you wear glasses. Laser aiming devices are verboten.
