Looking to list a few guns on GB. Does anyone have experience with selling on there? Im guessing all firearm items have to get shipped through a FFL? And are the fees reasonable?
All firearms must be shipped TO an FFL.
FFLs vary on whether they will accept shipments from non-FFL or not. You may also struggle to find a carrier who will take shipments of firearms from non-FFL as well. I believe UPS and Fedex both have policies that only accept shipments ordered by FFLs.
UPS and FedEx will not accept any firearm shipments from Non FFLs for the past few years. You also need a firearms shipping agreement filed with the carrier as well. I believe a regular citizen can mail a long gun only at the moment with USPS but the rates are very high due to the length over 30” surcharge. There is a special USPS form for FFLs shipping firearms.
Buyer just has to pay from FFL to FFL.

This used to be my go to but it’s pretty much dead in the water now because UPS has decided to close all of their customers counters. In short, the ONLY way a non FFL holder can ship a firearm through UPS is to drop it off at a UPS customer center (NOT a UPS store). Except theyve closed all of their customer centers… Or at least the vast majority of them. You COULD drop off a gun at a Staples or UPS store and just not inform them that it’s a gun. You’re not breaking the law by doing so, but you ARE breaking UPS policy. So if the package is lost or damaged you won’t be reimbursed. Maybe there is some 3rd party insurance that you can buy that will still cover you in the event of damage or lost package. But if there is, I’m not aware of it.
I have sold a few non firearm items on Gunbroker. The problem was getting paid. Gunbroker does not facilitate credit card payments like eBay so you either have to set that up which is expensive if you’re only selling a few items. I just accepted USPS money order payments only. It takes longer but I found buyers for what I was selling who did not have a problem with that. Once I received the money order I took it to the post office to cash it and shipped the items.
Alternative choice, consignment with a dealer that has a gunbroker page. They will take a percentage, but handle details and shipping.
Rifles can be shipped by you to an FFL thru USPS. When you bring the rifle to USPS just hand them the package. Don’t tell them what it is. 95% of the usps workers don’t know their own policies.. I always drop a AirTags in the rifle package so I can track where it is. It’s piece of mind. I’ve had rifle that took 6 weeks to get delivered…. I could tell they were sitting in a USPS hub so I didn’t lose my mind.
Pistols need to go ffl to ffl
If your buyer tells you their ffl will not accept a package from a non ffl then tell them to find another one or tell them they can pay the extra fees for going thru the ffl(rifles only)
USPS shipping fees aren’t to bad…. But adding insurance and signatures does add up.. anywhere from 60-130 depending on size and weight

Gunbroker takes 6% of the sale…. If you’re looking for top dollar, take the fees and the hassles of shipping and getting paid into account and reduce your price some and list it on here…. Much easier dealing with a local person….. if it’s anything older or military shoot me a message…..
UPS Secaucus is still open. Alternatively, you can schedule to have UPS pick up the package from your house or place of business. It does cost an additional $20 or so for the pick up.
But yeah, other than SMG there is no way left for an individual to ship a pistol legitimately without using an FFL. And most NJ FFL’s try to bullshit you that you have to ship overnight, and they want to charge you $150 to do so.
Gunbroker has turned into a complete rip-off, I don’t know how anybody uses them anymore. I guess dealers get some kind of deal or discount, but it’s pretty cost prohibitive for an individual. Try to sell local first.

Clarification you CANNOT request a pickup of firearms per UPS policy. FFLs can (even though mine still drops off at Staples in violation of UPS policy). But regular citizens cannot without violating their firearms policy.
You are not requesting a pickup as an individual when using SMG. It’s being picked up under a national FFL account. I have used this method with zero issues.

Not to my knowledge. Shipmygun (SMG) is a division of BudsGunShop. SMG has been around for a couple years now.

GB is not the onerous task that it’s made out to be here. It’s easy to call up an FFL and ask things but shipping a long gun through the USPS is not traumatic. If you are worried about the length of the gun, take the stock off and that will shorten the package. I have used guns com in the past for a Taurus .357 revolver and got a basically fair price. They will even send you packing materials if you need them for a small fee. I am not advising this but nothing says that if you find an out of state buyer and drive to NY or PA or have the buyer drive to you in NJ and just consummate the transaction. Good luck.
