G48 mos

Going to check out a G48 MOS on Wednesday for EDC. Turns out my Kimber Micro 9 just isn’t up to 200 - 300 round range days/training classes.

I swore I’d never buy a Glock just because they are so damned ugly, but the new slim line Glocks aren’t that bad, and I am looking for reliability and concealability now.

Anyone have any experience with these? Anything I should look for / pay attention to?

Thanks

I guess Kimber’s reputation for solid, slick and reliable full size 1911’s does not transfer to the smaller edc guns.

It’s great for the first 50 rounds. Then, after about 50 - 100 rounds it begins to jam (failure to extract/eject). Once I thoroughly clean it it runs fine again. Beautiful gun and I shoot it well, I’m just tired of dealing with reliability issues.

Just curious what ammo you are running and if this happens regardless of ammo brand/type? I’d also give Kimber a call about the issue jamming within 100 rounds.

The only thing I can say, is if you’re going to look at the G48 class of guns, I recommend taking a good look at the P365 XL. I was a Glock 43x and 48 owner, but know I own the P365X and the P365XL. The Sigs really own this market segment. Just better in every aspect.

I’ve tried Blazer, Remington, Federal, and Herter’s. They all do it to some extent, although Federal seems to be the worst. I’ll give Kimber a call and see what they have to say.

I’ve tried by buddy’s SIG 365, but it doesn’t seem to fit my hand very well. I also like the H&K CC9, but they seem to be hard to find.

Lots of great options out there and if the wallet is willing you could chase options for a long time. On the subject of the 48 I’ve had and carried mine now a couple of years. I’ve got no complaints with the mine and would recommend one to anyone interested.

Tell me about it…

This was obtained as a P365 X-Macro Comp.

Then I swapped in a Wilson Combat XL grip, and added the Holosun EPS Carry, a Gray Guns trigger and a TLR-7 Sub.

The Wilson grip was fine, but then I felt the need to upgrade it with a grip from Mischief Machine

I’ve got the OG G48 non-MOS version from when they originally released it. It’s in my usual rotation and performs great. The 48 MOS will have a rail for light and MOS plates, which will be good for optics, but I prefer mine without. I will say, the slimline grip is on the slick side, and because it’s slimmer I found myself adjusting my grip a lot, until I added some Talon Grips. It’s been nothing but reliable. Trigger’s a standard Glock trigger, so not the greatest, but it’s good enough for me to be accurate.

I also have a P365 XMacro like Stu. I, too, have been playing around with grip options. I have the Wilson Combat Grip XL Grip as weland Holosun HS507K on mine. With the same model holster as the G48 (Crossbreed Reckoning), I actually find myself carrying the G48 more.

You went Full 1911 style on that grip…

So I shot the G48 today - meh. Not a big fan of the trigger, naturally points lower than my Kimber, but fairly accurate. I can make all of that work. I also looked at the G43X MOS. I assume the only difference is it’s about 1/2 an inch shorter? Does that affect balance at all? Muzzle flip? I may rent one of those next week to try; didn’t have time today.

As for the trigger - my main issue is that it pinches my trigger finger between the bottom of the trigger and the guard. I’ve never had this problem with any other pistol. Is this what everyone talks about when they say “Glock Trigger”? I am also not a fan of the reset travel, much longer than the Kimber.

BTW - Spoke to one of the RSOs and she told me there is another person taking classes with a Kimber Micro 9 and has the same issues as I have. She said Kimber tolerances are so tight on that gun that any fouling at all affects performance.

The Glock grip angle normally would result in someone used to 1911 style grips to point the Glock high, not low.

I have never heard of “Glock trigger”. “Glock finger” is where the rough underside of the trigger guard rubs on the middle knuckle of the middle finger of your dominant hand. Regular Glock shooters develop a callus on the side of that knuckle.

I am trying to remember which high profile instructor said he would offer a prize to anyone that made it all the way through one of his classes with a 3.5" 1911 that kept running until the end.

@Grapeshot

If you get the 48. You can buy an additional complete 43x upper. It will fit/run. Have 2 guns in one. I run a red dot on the 48 slide. Just irons on the 43x to keep it as compact as possible. I like options. Lol

How big of hands do you have?

I don’t have big hands/fingers but can’t figure how you would pinch your finger between the trigger/guard.

Is it the trigger safety leaving a ridge on your finger maybe? It doesn’t go flush and has a ridge really… that’s my least favorite part - but easily changeable.

So I went and shot the G43 today - same problems, horrible trigger, pinches my finger.

Ordered a H&K CC9.

Also shot the S&W Bodyguard .380 - what a nice little pistol! And while I really don’t want to add another caliber, I might have to make an exception. And that means I can also justify a Walther PPK. Decisions, decisions.

Too late, but I’m wondering if an aftermarket flat trigger for the glock would alleviate the pinch for you…

I hear you on .380 - Since I started carrying I’ve teetered on getting a .380, but have managed to resist.

I put my foot down to “Caliber Creep” a couple of years ago. NO MORE NEW CALIBERS!

Also shot the S&W Bodyguard .380

The S&W Bodyguard 2.0 is a game changer for the 380, the way the Sig P365 was a game changer for 9mm. It is a well thought out design. It’s a tiny gun that feels and shoots like a bigger gun. I find myself carrying it more than any other pistol now. I carry it loaded with Underwood xtreme defender monolithic 68gr ammo. This ammo is really impressive.

Let us know how you like the CC9.
