AR workaround?

AR 15 with an 8.5” Barrel Fixed Mag (King Pin) with a Brace.

MY questions before I start spending money ( Facts only Please not Opinions)

Would this be considered an AR Pistol and is it legal to own in NJ

If this is legal in NJ does it have to be less than 50 oz.

or does any of this not matter since the mag will be fixed ?

Sorry to keep asking the same thing over and over but I don’t think I have a definitive enough answer to my questions to proceed

Have you tried looking at the law yourself? It isn’t that complicated.
From N.J.A.C. 13:54-1.2 defining an assault pistol

ii. A semi-automatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the following:

(1) An ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;

(2) A threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer;

(3) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the non-trigger hand without being burned;

(4) Manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and/or

(5) A semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm;

As you are configuring it without a detachable magazine, none of the restrictions apply.

Yes I have read the law several times but it does not contain the last sentence of your reply and that is the exact information I was looking for.(As you are configuring it without a detachable magazine, none of the restrictions apply.) Thank You

The last sentence is me interpreting the first sentence of the definition.

“A semi-automatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine…”

Your proposed pistol does not accept a detachable magazine so nothing in the rest of the definition is relevant.

This was my thinking as well but I had to hear it from someone else

The weapon you saw is an AR style “other Firearm”

I have some in stock - FYI

There are still some Jersey-legal AR pistols around.
Bushmaster and Professional Ordnance brand.
Polymer upper and lower, 7.5" bbl, unthreaded
They pop up on Gunbroker now and then.
I have one of each and used to bring them to NJ Arfcom blasts.

Fixed mag?

Don’t need to be.
They make weight and have no excess evil features.
They transfer on a pistol permit, if your ffl will do it.
Some are too scared, even though 100% legal

Just checked Gunbroker - none listed right now

I’m like how? :thinking: Missed this part:

:face_vomiting:
I don’t know about the durability of a polymer AR upper or lower. I prefer metal even for normal pistols (except for carry for the weight savings.) I couldn’t bring myself to buy a fixed mag version as it just seems too much of a pain to load. Happy with a 10.5" ‘other’.

They’ve both lasted thru the 1000’s of rounds I’ve put thru them.
And as a just-in-case backup, I also bought a stripped polymer lower on a pistol permit for a future failure replacement.

With a single point sling to push against and a support hand grip on the front of the magwell to pull towards me, they are pretty easy to stay on target.

The flames out of the 7.5" bbl are quite impressive, esp in low light!

So you also question the durability and bought a spare…

I’m not saying they wouldn’t shoot 1000s of rounds, my concern would be how tough they might be to abuse overall. Pins walking, etc.

7.5" just seems to be a waste of 5.56. 10.5" is already losing a lot of velocity vs 16", but it also has a nice flashbang. Actually if it were 9mm it would make more sense to me out of 7.5" especially once they abolish mag limits.

Well this is STILL the Gloious People’s Republik of New Jerseystan and 10 rounds is still the max (only for a little while, G-d willing) so these AR pistols predate the 9mm craze.

And as a risk averse person, when PPP’s were only $2 I bought the extra polymer lower from @PK90 when he was still here.

These things are fun as hell to shoot.
I’ll bring one or both to the next fun shoot I attend, as long as handguns that fire rifle ammo are allowed.
